Hey all, I'm looking to create a wireless bridge from a drop near my front door to my driveway where I'll be installing an automated gate entry keypad system that needs ethernet. (running cable is way more expensive than getting a solid bridge set up) The distance is approx.
Hello eveyone, I am looking for some helps here in regard to the Nano M5 setup. Here are the scenario. Currently we have two Nanostation M5 in our. Ubiquiti Networks. 45', with only a 6'x 2' decorative hollow wooden pillar between the two locations with otherwise clear LoS. Testing signal strength with an iPhone X, I get 65dBm/65% when the AP is a AC-LR.I'm wondering about your thoughts on using 2x AC-Mesh as the AP/Uplink vs. A NanoStation M5 & M5Loco as the AP/Uplink?I'm already using Unifi with my USG/Switch 8/AC-Pro, and ideally I'd love to use the AC-Mesh to stay with Unifi, but I'm not 100% sure if it'll be a consistent connection/be equivalent to the NanoStation. Also, I'd prefer to be able to use the downlink not only as a downlink, but also an AP where I can connect phones/laptops.
I understand that with the NanoStation line, I can only do it with the M line and not the AC line (which I'd have to passthrough another AP). As far as I’m aware, if I have a pair of NS-M5s, the downlink is in AP mode and the uplink is in station mode, connected to the AP NS-M5.I’m looking to bridge a gap in which the station is hardwired to a gate entryway keypad box.

But honestly the only thing connected to the end is the keypad box which would only require a minimal data connection IF someone is coming over and rings the box. It’s such a low-frequency use that I think I’m not really concerned about stealing bandwidth from the upstream AP since the areas in which devices would try to connect to the AP anyways would be outside or during times in which people wouldn’t come over and ring the key box. OK, I see where you're going. I have almost the exact same setup at a site where the gate/callbox is too far for a wired run and I bridged the guard house to the main house using two NanoBeams. The house uplink connection is the station with the remote NB as the AP in ptp mode, locked to the station's MAC address. The AP is not used as an AP for downlinked clients - The gate NB is connected and powered via a ToughSwitch which also connects and powers a Mesh AP for WiFI at the gate with a wirelessly uplinked Mesh unit farther down the road to extend coverage. This provides both a wired and wireless network at the gate for video, voice, and notifications for the gate controller. It all works flawlessly, even through a tree and the side of the house.
